BE DILIGENT: The Parable of Fruitful Hearers
FOCAL PASSAGE: Mark 4:21-34
FRUITFUL HEARERS WITNESS OBEDIENTLY
1. SPIRITUAL FRUIT
2. SPECIFIC FRUITFULNESS
In this passage (Mark 4:21-34), the Lord’s specific emphasis was on the fruit that comes from being a faithful witness to Him.
3. ANALOGY OF THE PARABLE
To maximize the radiance, lamps were set on lampstands or shelves protruding from the wall, where their glow could be seen throughout the room unobstructed.
For obvious reasons, no one would place the lamp under a basket or under a bed, thereby negating its purpose.
4. MANDATE OF THE PARABLE
Jesus made it plain that His plan was for them to shine the gospel into all places.
The evangelistic mandate did not end with the disciples. It began with them and has fallen on all believers, in every generation of the church history.
FRUITFUL HEARERS WORK EXPECTANTLY
Jesus was saying to them pay close attention to what you hear.
These truths were to be established in their minds.
1. DEDICATION TO THE TASK
2. PROMISE OF ETERNAL REWARDS
These rewards (eternal) will last forever. I Corinthians 9:24-25
The emptiness of their superficial faith will be exposed and the Lord will say to them: Matthew 7:23
LIVE IT OUT
How will you allow your light to shine forth this week?
Who needs to know what you know about eternity?
Do you know for certain?
