COME HOME TO CAMERON: Hope for a Hurting Heart
FOCAL PASSAGE: I Peter 1:1—4a
WE ARE CHOSEN BY GOD
I Peter 1:1—2
The first good news is the knowledge that we are “chosen by God.”
God has given us a purpose for our existence, a reason to go on, even though that existence includes tough times.
REJOICING THROUGH HARD TIMES
1. WE HAVE A LIVING HOPE… I Peter 1:3
No matter what you are experiencing on earth right now understand nothing falls into the category of “the final chapter.”
2. WE HAVE A PERMANENT INHERITANCE
I Peter 1:3—4
We can have hope and rejoice through suffering because we have a permanent inheritance—a secure home in heaven.
3. WE HAVE A DIVINE PROTECTION
I Peter 1:5
The good news is regardless of the process of suffering; we cannot be lost or separated from our God.
We are eternally secure and the present suffering will only last a while.
4. WE HAVE A DEVELOPING FAITH
I Peter 1:6—7
The words “even though” (v.7) indicates that the joy is unconditional. It does not depend on the circumstances surrounding us.
THREE THINGS SAID ABOUT TRIALS:
> First, trials are often necessary.
> Second, trials are distressing.
> Third, trials come in various forms.
5. WE HAVE AN UNSEEN SAVIOR
I Peter 1:8
6. WE HAVE A GUARANTEED DELIVERANCE
I Peter 1:9
LIVE IT OUT
> What trial or struggle is robbing you of your hope?
> Is your hope established in the invisible Savior?
