Time To Tidy The Temple: CLEANSING

Preacher:
Passage: Matthew 21:12-17

Let's return the message initiated last week: Time To Tidy the Temple. In this recorded description of Christ cleansing the temple the last week of His life on earth, there are so many leassons to be learned that can apply to our lives and help us become that "Righteous Person." Let's read Matthew 21:12-17...

Matthew 21:12-17 ...12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’” 14 The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. 16 “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise’?” 17 And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.

NOTE THE HOUSE CLEANING

Matthew 21:12-13 ...12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”

1. JESUS’ IMMEDIATE RESPONSE
• He immediately launches action to make a point to those who were insensitive to the Holiness of God.

2. THE COMMOTION IN OUR LIVES

• So why do we think it would be any different within our lives when we begin to take shortcuts with God; when we begin to cheat Him of what He has bought and purchased; when it appears we are only in it for what we can get out of it?

• John 14:15-21 ...15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

3. THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
• How do we know when God is disturbing and shaking up our lives?
• It typically begins with His moving in our lives, speaking to us in that small still voice.
