SMALL GROUPS: Why Small Groups?
FOCAL PASSAGE: Acts 2:42-47
So why are small groups so important? Most of us
have this nagging question as we proceed through life,
“Why am I here? What is my purpose in life?”
WORSHIP... TO GET TO KNOW AND LOVE GOD
True worship is getting to know and love God and really, can take place at any time.
When you leave your SSLG, you should feel you know God more deeply and that you have been drawn closer to Him.
FELLOWSHIP… LEARNING TO LOVE EACH OTHER
We think of love as an emotion, but really love is a choice. I must choose to love someone who thinks different than me or acts different or even sometimes believes different than me.
I John 4:11
DISCIPLESHIP… TO GROW IN BECOMING LIKE JESUS
We all need models to help us mature.
Many people make the mistake of thinking all they need to grow spiritually is God’s Word and prayer.
MINISTRY… TO PRACTICI USING OUR TALENTS IN SERVING GOD
Many people have the misconception that being “called” by God is something only missionaries, pastors, or other church leaders experience.
We are saved to serve each other.
Notice 3 things this verse tells us about serving.
1. THE BASIS FOR SERVING OTHERS IS SALVATION
2. BARRIERS TO SERVING OTHERS IS SELFISHNESS
>Most of the time, we’re more interested in “serve-us” than “service”.
3. THE MOTIVE FOR SERVING IS LOVE
>I Corinthians 13:3
>God is far more concerned in WHY you serve others than He is interested in how well you serve them. He is always looking at the heart.
EVANGELISM... TO SHARE THE GOOD NEWS WITH OTHERS
Love cares about the destiny of others.
