STRENGTHENING OUR FAMILIES: Foundations for The Family
FOCAL PASSAGE: Joshua 24:14-15
“Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
THE MAY OF ALL THE EARTH
II Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
FINAL FAMILY MEETING
FAMILIES’ FUTURE DANGERS
1. REMEMBER WHAT THE LORD DID!
From the day that Israel left Egypt, the Lord had fought for His people and delivered them from their enemies.
Satan wants to sift us like wheat – Luke 22:31
2. REMEMBER WHAT THE LORD SAID!
God kept His promises and He had every right to expect Israel to keep all His commandments as well.
We all feel the pressure of the world around us, attempting to force us to conform. I John 2:15-17
3. REMEMBER WHAT THE LORD WOULD DO!
The Word of God is like a two-edged sword: obey it, God will bless us; disobey it, God will chasten us.
Perhaps today, the reason we are seeing the deterioration of our families is because we have gotten away from the three things Joshua reminds us to do in these passages:
> KEEP GOD’S WORD
Joshua 23:6... Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.
> HOLD ON (cleave) TO THE LORD
Joshua 23:8... But you are to hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have until now.
> LOVE THE LORD
Joshua 23:11... So be very careful to love the Lord your God.
