STRESS? WHO HAS STRESS? Stress Fractures
FOCAL PASSAGE: Proverbs 3:5-6
THE DESTRUCTION OF SELF IMPOSED STRESS
1. THE GOOD VERSES BEST
—Notice Martha was the doer. Most likely had the gift of service.
2. I MUST DO IT ALL
—Good example is Moses: an overworked servant, leader…
—We must be careful of several tools that Satan uses in the life of a leader to overwhelm him.
Pride is the first thing – thinking that no one else can hear or speak for God.
Perfectionism – no one can or will do this like I do it.
Fear of Rejection – no one will want to help me with this.
MY PART, GOD'S PART
Let’s break these verses down and see how they might apply to our lives.
1. THREE OBSERVATIONS:
a. NOTICE THE FOUR VERBS OR ACTION WORDS:
trust / do not lean / acknowledge / make straight
b. PERSONAL NATURE OF THIS VERSE:
The same term is used no less than four times. Can you find it? Look again at the verses. Circle the word “YOUR”. God is really emphasizing the personal nature of this truth.
c.DEFINING SOLOMON’S WORDS ABOUT WORRY:
d. PUTTING IT TOGETHER:
Throw yourself completely upon the Lord—that is, cast all your present and future needs on Him who is your intimate Savior-God—finding in Him your security and safety. Do this with all your mind and feeling and will. In order to make this possible, you must refuse to support yourself upon the crutch of human ingenuity. Instead, recognize His presence and concern in each one of your circumstances. Then He (having taken full control of the situation) will thoroughly smooth out and straighten your paths, removing obstacles along the way.
LIVE IT OUT
> When are you going to do this, my friend?
> This is the key question: What’s it going to take to make you “let go and relax”?
> Here is the Lord, longing to carry it for you; but He won’t force you to let go.
