FIRM FOUNDATIONS (Year 1) - Week 1 - Back to Basics
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” - Matthew 7:24-27
The Rock of Our Firm Foundation:
Rock “Petra”– does not mean a stone or even a boulder, but a great outcropping of rock, a large expanse of bedrock. It is solid, stable and unmovable.
The Three Pillars:
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. - 1 John 5:13
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." - 2 Peter 3:18
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20
What Good Is A Foundation Without A House?
Church is mentioned 114 times in the NT. A great majority of the remaining 109 times it is referring to the local Ekklesia (the Church at Corinth, Galatia, etc).
Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit. - Hebrews 13:17
